Watch Jordan Peele Figure Out His Favorite Horror Movie Ever

If there’s one thing folks on the internet love doing, it’s tournaments and trying to decide what “the best” of something is. And since we’re entering October, that  means it’s time to extend that to horror movies. But instead of holding a vote or making a post for people to argue about in the comments, Jordan Peele’s taking a slightly different approach to things…after which, people can argue about in the comments.

On Friday, Peele released a video where he broke determined his favorite horror movie ever. The twist? It’s done in a tournament bracket like in sports, with 16 movies going head-to-head before the top two square off in the end. Those movies mostly include a range of 80s and 90s classics (like Friday the 13th and Scream), more recent fare from the 2000s to roughly now (The Babadook and It Follows), while the oldest of the bunch is Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film The Birds. Naturally, some of the match-ups get a bit silly—It Follows squaring off against Jaws is just funny to think about in a more official capacitybut in the end, the winner is…

A Nightmare on Elm Street, which Peele says has the greatest horror villain of all time in Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger. Too bad the video’s only a minute long, because a longer one would’ve allowed him to break down why he chose the movies he did and what about them he likes. Actors interviewed by Letterboxd get the chance to do that with their Four Favorites, and it can lead to some interesting insights, even for the movies people may know like the back of their own hand.

Agree with Jordan Peele’s pick, disagree? Think this tells us something about his earlier movies or his next one due in 2026? Let us know in the comments.
