Xiaomi has announced the launch of the Mijia Smart Camera Video Call, a new smart camera with a 3.5-inch screen designed primarily for video calls, but which also functions as a home surveillance device. The product integrates into the brand’s smart home ecosystem, combining communication, security, and automation features in a single device.

With a compact rectangular design resembling a tabletop thermometer, the device offers a simple interface. On the left side, there is a 3.5-inch display showing the caller’s image, as well as date, time, and weather information over a customizable background. On the right, a physical button allows users to start and end calls, while a 4 MP camera with an f/1.6 aperture and infrared night vision extends its use to nighttime monitoring.

The built-in system includes alarm and SOS functions, allowing users to request help in emergency situations. Video recordings can be stored in the cloud, on a memory card, or on a NAS server, providing flexible storage options. Integrated into the Mi Home ecosystem, the camera can also interact with other smart devices, such as automatically turning off the lights when the room is empty.

Video calls can be made through the Mi Home app or WeChat, a popular platform in China. Although tablets and smartphones already perform similar functions, Xiaomi believes the new model will appeal to specific audiences, such as seniors, who may benefit from its simpler interface, and families looking to monitor children or pets remotely.

Initially launched in China, the Mijia Smart Camera Video Call is priced at ¥175 (approximately US$24.50), offering an affordable option for users seeking connectivity and home security in one compact device.
