Holland America Line announced the creation of a new, exclusive tulip variety in a tribute to its Dutch heritage and maritime legacy, which began with the company’s founding in Rotterdam in 1873. This flower is intended to be a living symbol of the cruise line’s enduring connection to the Netherlands and the revitalization of its cherished traditions.

The exclusive tulip variety was cultivated by renowned Dutch growers and is scheduled to make its official debut in April 2026. The bulbs were recently handed over during a ceremony at the famous Keukenhof Gardens. Captain Jeroen Baijens of the flagship Rotterdam and Nico Bleichrodt, the cruise line’s vice president of international sales and marketing, presented the bulbs to representatives of the Keukenhof. These bulbs will be planted this fall and are expected to bloom next spring.

The official naming ceremony for the tulip is also slated to take place at Keukenhof in April 2026. Once named, the flower will be utilized in various events and featured in select gardens to serve as a constant tribute to the company’s history.

According to Bleichrodt, the tulip embodies the essence of “Dutchness” and represents the brand’s commitment to elegance, warmth, and attention to detail. He stated that, much like the careful cultivation of each petal, Holland America’s service is rooted in genuine hospitality, which creates an environment for guests to relax and explore the world comfortably. This initiative aligns with the cruise line’s broader dedication to preserving its traditions, which include using fresh flowers on board and maintaining award-winning service standards. The exclusive tulip joins a legacy of cultural tributes that aim to provide guests with a sense of authenticity and continuity across generations of the company’s operation. The flower will be showcased as a physical representation of the cruise line’s identity and commitment to its roots.
