Y’all, things are getting wild in Washington D.C. — and the people in the Northeastern quadrant are talking. Authorities charged a 12-year-old girl in connection with multiple robberies, and the details will leave you shook. Police say she wasn’t acting alone, and it looks like the city’s youth crime problem is showing up in some very unexpected ways.

Kids Allegedly Pull Quick Grocery Store Heist, Caught Fast

According to authorities, the unnamed girl was arrested on November 9 after police linked her to two robberies that went down on the evening of October 5 — just minutes apart. In the first incident, a group of children stopped a victim who was leaving a grocery store on a bike. Apparently, one of the kids threw another bike in front of the victim. And, while one initially tried to grab the bike, they ended up making off with groceries instead.

Furthermore, the second robbery happened roughly 15 minutes later along the Metropolitan Branch Trail. Crazy enough, police say the same crew stopped a scooter rider by grabbing their backpack. One of the children took the scooter for a short spin before ditching it when an officer appeared. Additionally, one of them reportedly stole the victim’s phone, which was attached to the scooter. Officers are still searching for the other minors involved, raising questions about how widespread the incidents really are.

D.C. Neighborhood Fed Up With Kid Robbers

Don’t get it twisted…neighbors are fed up and worried. Residents like Jean Phillippe and Cody Wolfe expressed frustration about recurring juvenile crime in the area, pointing to previous robberies in May along the same trail. “It’s not good for a district,” Phillippe said. Wolfe added, “What is the city doing to make sure that the youth have active stuff that they can do?” For now, police are holding the 12-year-old accountable but continue the hunt for the rest of the group.

“What is the city doing to make sure that the youth have active stuff that they can do to be out and about instead of, you know, always trying to be in some kind of crime or some kind of thing that could get them in trouble,” Wolfe added. “What kind of things can we make for the city for the youth?”
