Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is attempting to introduce legislation in the US to shield fossil fuel companies from ALL product liability damages. But why is the fossil fuel industry so afraid of the rising number of lawsuits against it?
Just about when you think you’ve heard everything about how insane US politics could get, along comes Senator Ted Cruz.
Senator Ted Cruz had a brilliant idea. He does not want fossil fuel companies to be morally, ethically, or legally responsible for ANY of the individual or environmental damage fossil fuel burning causes in the US and by extension anywhere in the world. He doesn’t want the fossil fuel companies to be responsible for your child’s asthma, or the tens of thousands of US respiratory deaths each year caused by the toxic pollution and other consequences of burning fossil fuels.
He also doesn’t want individual homeowners, businesses, or states to be able to collect legitimate financial restitution when their homes, businesses, or regions are devastated by the many accelerating consequences of climate change, which are also directly caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
Senator Ted Cruz also wants to be the leader of this “no product liability for fossil fuel companies” movement and attract vast amounts of new fossil fuel lobbying, donations, and support.
To help launch his campaign for the new laws that shield fossil fuel companies from ALL product liability, he has come up with a fantastic cover story for why his fellow US politicians should join him in this massive climate change denial and taxpayer financial boondoggle.
Cruz claims that China, through a New York organization called the Energy Foundation China, is funding US nonprofits and other parties to bring new meritless lawsuits against fossil fuel companies. He names various US nonprofits, such as the Rocky Mountain Institute, that have received funding from the Energy Foundation China.
When these organizations were contacted, they stated that while they had received funding from this foundation, it was used only to help reduce pollution in China and had no connection with encouraging lawsuits against fossil fuel companies anywhere worldwide.
It appears that Senator Ted Cruz was looking for an easy, big, bad guy to blame for the rising number of legitimate lawsuits against the fossil fuel companies worldwide. After all, it’s not that hard to imagine why anyone would want to sue a fossil fuel company for the toxic pollution and the many other climate change-driven individual and environmental harms that burning fossil fuel products has been proven to cause.
By making a big “I am so angry and indignant” media fuss, stating that China is destroying America’s energy security by promoting lawsuits against fossil fuel companies, Cruz is obviously also trying to provide the needed political cover for other fossil fuel-financed politicians to help pass this new product liability shielding law.
But here’s the backlash Cruz and his staff did not think through. If Cruz and the fossil fuel lobby are successful with this new no product liability law, it will be a financial nightmare for American homeowners, business owners, and many states already trying to recover from the ever-escalating costs of climate change damages.
Hey Ted, it is not China that is the bad boy, causing the ever-increasing number of lawsuits filed against fossil fuel companies worldwide. You’re the bad guy!
You are screwing over the small homeowners, small businesses, and even local politicians who are having to find some way to pay for the many forms of legitimate climate change-related damage caused by the ever-increasing burning of fossil fuels.
Hey Ted, the simple “Oham’s Razor” reason behind why average citizens and local governments worldwide are filing ever-rising lawsuits against fossil fuel companies is that the toxic, polluting, and climate change-fueling products of those companies have legitimately harmed them, and their areas, and it is their legal and constitutional right to do so!
So Ted, here’s the bad news. It is not the false but easy China target this time.
It’s you proposing even more corporate welfare for the world’s richest fossil fuel companies. Yes, you really are the bad guy here. You are grossly failing to protect the legal and constitutional rights, as well as the common well-being, of your own constituents!
Let’s see if you will find the courage to clearly explain to the public exactly why you have sponsored your silly new law of “no product liability to protect the super-rich fossil fuel companies”. You will also need to logically explain exactly why you’re so willing to take away your constituents’ constitutional right to file lawsuits for the legitimate harms they have experienced to protect guilty, super-rich, gigantic fossil fuel corporations from their own harmful acts.
Do you not understand that continuing to protect the dead-end fossil fuel industry is literally handing over dominance for the global manufacturing of green energy generation equipment to China? Do you not realize that whoever dominates the manufacture and distribution of green energy generation equipment and can also operate large-scale green energy generation facilities will, in the future, become the richest and most powerful nation on the planet?
This is not rocket science, Senator Cruz. Whoever controls both the future of green energy generation equipment manufacturing and leads in producing and selling green energy worldwide will dominate the global financial landscape and likely control most other areas as well.
It doesn’t take much imagination to see China continuing to lead the world in producing the most cost-effective, efficient, and affordable solar panels, batteries, and wind turbines, as it already is. However, here’s the kicker to never forget Ted: China will not only manufacture this equipment more effectively and at a lower cost than anyone else, but it will also establish its own massive green energy generation facilities in many other countries worldwide. Once those China-owned facilities have been established, it will be China, not US fossil fuel companies, that will provide those countries nearly unlimited, non-polluting green electricity at a significantly lower rate than anyone else can produce in or outside of their own countries.
And finally, we certainly do not believe that you, Ted, or your staff, are dishonest or idiots. Rather, we believe your actions are perfectly described and understood by the words of the American humorist Mark Twain.

We invite Ted Cruz and his staff to read current and uncensored climate change science, and especially read this online trial of the fossil fuel cartel for the climate change-related damages they have caused worldwide.
