“We are looking for growth opportunities, for new synergies in order to increase our commerce. With India, we need to increase and diversify our exports, they are still too concentrated in energy and oil sector. With China (our commerce) is too concentrated in food and edible products, but we are looking to expand this to other types of products. In Russia”s case, we are negotiating meat exports. The President (referring to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva) should be going to Russia in May with a delegation of business leaders.”

STORYLINE:
Business representatives from the five countries that form the two largest commercial blocks among developing countries, met on Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil, Russia, India and China form the BRIC group, while South Africa is part of the IBSA group with India and Brazil.
Wednesday”s BRIC-IBSA gathering was the first of several multilateral meetings scheduled to take place throughout Brazil this week.
The presidents of all five nations are due to meet in Brasilia Thursday and Friday.
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) President and Managing Director of Bharti Industries Rajan Bharti Mittal told reporters that he hoped the leaders will address climate change and food security among other issues.
Norton Rapesta, Brazil”s Foreign Ministry Director for the Promotion of International Commerce and Investment spoke about the need to increase and diversify trade within the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) nations.
According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, the BRIC country leaders are scheduled to discuss the international economic crisis, the reform of financial institutions and other issues related to global governance.
Brazil”s Director for the Promotion of International Commerce and Investment Norton Rapesta said he is hoping for new “growth opportunities” in order to diversify exports to BRIC-member nations.
