If we go by a rumor from earlier this month, Samsung will fully reveal its VR headset codenamed Project Moohan on October 21. So it’s no surprise that we are finally getting some solid information about what might be called the Galaxy XR. The leak contains official-looking renders and key specs.

The Galaxy XR will be equipped with two 4K micro-LED displays with 4,032 ppi. Both displays combined will feature 29 million pixels, which is more than the 23 million pixels offered by Apple’s Vision Pro or Meta’s Quest 3 headsets.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 is tasked with the heavy lifting, while a host of sensors and cameras will be able to track your hands, eyes and environment. The eyewear features four sensors on the front and two at the bottom, used for hand tracking, along with a proximity sensor positioned near the forehead. This one is mainly for safety as it looks for physical boundaries like walls, ceilings, furniture, etc.

Four cameras on the inside are tasked with eye tracking, but they also have the help of an AI to increase accuracy.

There are also a bunch of microphones that can distinguish your voice from the surrounding sounds and can also detect other people’s voices so that you can hear them more clearly.

Moving to the design, we see a very similar look to the one we’ve seen back in January when Samsung showcased the headset in the flesh. Reportedly, there are plenty of cushions inside that should make wearing the headset more comfortable, and the band is, of course, adjustable with the dial at the back.

The volume and power buttons are located at the top and a cable runs along the left side of the band that connects to a power source, while the right side hosts a touchpad. Battery life is said to be 2 hours with normal use and 2.5 hours with just video playback.

The whole system reportedly weighs 545 grams, which is a tad lighter than the Apple Vision Pro with its 600-650 grams, but it’s 30 grams more than Meta’s Quest 3.

The headset will come with a pair of controllers for more accurate hand tracking in virtual 3D environments during gaming, for example. They will feature haptic feedback, of course.

Last but not least, we get a few screenshots from the One UI XR, if that’s indeed going to be the software’s branding.

As we already noted, the release date isn’t official yet, but the rumors so far point toward the end of this month, October 21, to be precise. As for pricing, leaks suggest a price tag of at least $1,800.
