Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans for a new, no-holds-barred Gaza offensive, set to begin “fairly quickly”, with the stated goal of defeating Hamas and dismantling strongholds in Gaza City and central refugee camps. Netanyahu claims the military will establish safe zones for civilians and insists Israel does not plan to occupy all of Gaza, only to create a security belt near the border.
He thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his “strong support” of Israel’s campaign.
Meanwhile, humanitarian groups and global leaders warn the Gaza Strip is on the brink of catastrophe, with starvation, disease, and mass casualties rapidly rising. The United Nations and humanitarian envoys, including Slovenian Representative Samuel Žbogar, have called for restraint, saying the offensive could worsen the humanitarian crisis. Hamas says it will never disarm unless an independent Palestinian state is established.
