Swerve Strickland may have been spotted backstage at AEW Dynamite recently—but don’t expect him back in the ring just yet. Strickland is still recovering from surgery and hasn’t been cleared to compete.

According to Fightful Select, Swerve was backstage for Dynamite shortly after celebrating his birthday, but his presence had nothing to do with an upcoming return.

“Swerve Strickland was backstage at a recent AEW Dynamite after his birthday party. He was just visiting and isn’t ready for a return yet.”

Strickland has been off AEW television since Forbidden Door, where he was written out of storylines in preparation for long-overdue surgery. The former champion had reportedly been wrestling with a torn meniscus for quite some time before finally opting to get it repaired.

AEW was fully prepared for Swerve’s absence, knowing that the injury required a break from competition. With the company continuing to push through the final stretch of 2025, his return could still have a major impact on the main event scene—especially with the Don Callis Family still in the spotlight.

While there’s no official timetable for his in-ring comeback, one thing’s for sure: when Swerve returns, he’s not coming back quietly.

Should Swerve Strickland immediately challenge Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Unified Title when he’s cleared? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
