Takashi Murakami, the Japanese contemporary artist known for blending motifs from popular culture and postwar Japanese art into fantastical, vibrant scenes, continues to bridge worlds with his signature characters and joyful flowers. His work has graced everything from hip-hop album covers to major museum exhibitions, seamlessly crossing creative boundaries. Now, Murakami brings his playful vision to the world of fine champagne, collaborating with Dom Pérignon on the Dom Perignon x Takashi Murakami collection – two limited-edition bottles celebrating the close of the 2025 season: one for Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 and one for the launch of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010.

Murakami’s collaboration with Dom Pérignon extends beyond decoration – it’s a conversation rooted in nature. For Dom Pérignon, nature is where it begins, as well as the medium itself – the grapes, unpredictable climate, and human touch – are all encapsulated within the confines of the glass. Murakami also interprets nature through transformation – his surreal, smiling flowers and dreamlike characters capture both the natural and artificial worlds, between nature’s evolution and the artist’s reimagining of it.

In the 2025 collection, this exchange comes alive through vibrant contrasts and symbolic design. The dark, minimalist bottles and coffrets are punctuated by bursts of Murakami’s iconic blooms, each one a cheerful, animated embodiment of vitality. The champagne’s historic crest becomes a portal to a whimsical, flower-filled world, where refinement meets exuberance and timeless craftsmanship meets contemporary imagination. The Vintage 2015 and Rosé Vintage 2010, both having distinctive color palettes and overall feelings, alike to the years themselves. When displayed side by side, the limited-edition boxes form a modular floral composition.

Murakami understands the importance of respecting the processes of the past, while also looking towards the future. “Through my collaboration with Dom Pérignon, I wanted to express a form of time travel. My goal is to remain relevant in 100 or 200 years and to transcend time. When the label has aged, and I am gone, and my children are gone, I hope that people of the future, when they see it, will reimagine 2025 in their own minds.” says the artist, grounding the collection in historical perspective.

As more and more brands seem to homogenize and stray away from bright color, Murakami and Dom Pérignon instead go another direction, embracing exploration, artistry, and the road less traveled. Explosions of happy Murakami flowers, bursting out of the traditional crest, signals a modern take from a classic brand. Dom Pérignon chooses to stay on this side of the millennium – a historic name paired with a contemporary sense of style.
