Maria do Rosário Caetano (Revista de Cinema) reports that Euzhan Palcy, in her acceptance speech for the Troféu Humanidade [Humanity Trophy], “underlined that her films ‘Are not black. They are not white. They are universal.’ She also reminded viewers that they hold ‘in their hands, the life of a film, the career of a filmmaker.’”

Euzhan Palcy has continued to collect awards since winning the César Award in 1984 for her first feature film “Rue Cases-Nègres,” which went on to win more than twenty international awards. Her most recent distinction came on October 15, 2025, at the opening of the 49th Mostra de São Paulo in Brazil, where the Martinican director received the “Humanities Award.” This award recognizes her social and political commitment through cinema.
Between receiving her first César Award on March 3, 1984, in Paris, and her Honorary Oscar in Los Angeles, USA (on November 19, 2022), for her lifetime achievement, the Martinican filmmaker has racked up awards.
Among her many works, “Rue Cases-Nègres” remains at the top of the awards list, having won more than 20 awards in several countries around the world. The Humanities Prize awarded to Euzhan Palcy at the opening of the 49th São Paulo Film Festival in Brazil, on Wednesday, October 15, must now be added to the long list. [. . .]
