Thibaut Courtois insisted that Real Madrid will not overlook their Champions League fixture against Juventus ahead of their Clasico clash with Barcelona on Sunday.

Madrid have had the most shots (48) and shots on target (27) in the Champions League so far this season.

With 15 shots on target vs Marseille and 12 vs Kairat Almaty, it could be the fourth time a side has had 10+ shots on target in three games in a row since 2003-04, with two of the previous three occasions being Madrid (April 2014 & November 2019); the other was Bayern Munich (December 2019).

Juventus, meanwhile, have won only one of their last 11 away matches in the Champions League (D5 L5, although four of their last five away games in the competition have ended in draws (L1).

On three of the last four occasions, Los Blancos have faced the Bianconeri in the Champions League. They have gone on to win the competition that season (2013-14, 2016-17 and 2017-18), the exception coming in 2014-15 when Juve knocked Madrid out in the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Despite the Italian side’s shaky form and El Clasico looming, Courtois, who is set to make his 300th appearance for Madrid, is fully focused on the task ahead.

“I’m really proud of this number. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid as a kid, and making my 300 appearances makes me proud,” said Courtois.

“Juventus are a dangerous team. They don’t come from a great moment, but we know they are dangerous in attack and defence. It will be tough, but we’ll need intensity.

When asked if El Clasico would change anything ahead of this game, the goalkeeper added: “The preparation is the same. Good preparation, good training and good rest.

“We want to be ready from a tactical point of view. When the Bernabeu pushes us, everything becomes easier for us. It gives us energy to keep fighting.”
