The initial version, the AP-101B, had over 100,000 32-bit words of magnetic-core memory and could perform about 400,000 operations per second. In the early 1990s, the fleet was upgraded to the AP-101S model. This new version replaced the bulky core memory with semiconductor memory, more than doubling the capacity to 256,000 words (roughly 1 MB of RAM).
