Laura Whitmore (Love Island UK), Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter), and David Mumeni (Bridgerton) are set to star in Frog.
Writer-Director Duo Rebecca Crookshank and Sophie King have teamed up with Paula McGann at FAF Films and Rope Ladder Fiction for their debut short, marking the birth of their new production company, Mammal Haus.
Marian McLoughlin and Neil D’Souza have also been cast in the short film.
Frog follows Cory (Whitmore), who is desperate to make a family of her own after enduring multiple failed rounds of IVF and maxing out her number of tries due to postcode rules. Meanwhile, her sister Bree (Lynch) hates the thought of motherhood. Bree is consumed by her conservation work with the Xenopus Frog species, committed to repopulating the very species used to make the first pregnancy tests for humans.
When human samples are required for her research and funding bodies refuse further support, Bree spots an opportunity to help both her work and her sister, no matter the cost. It’s here that the sisters realize how much they need each other to fulfill their goals.
“Rope Ladder Fiction are thrilled to be co-producing Frog alongside Mammal Haus and FaF Films, and Double Yellow Productions,” executive producer Hannah Lee said. “Over the past couple of years, we’ve had the pleasure of developing work with the bold and brilliant writer Rebecca Crookshank. This marks our fourth short film in partnership with exciting creatives who are forging brave, vital stories that deserve to be told.”
Crookshank and King added, “Frog is a love letter to nature and family, whatever family means to you.”
