Sony’s handheld streaming device, the PlayStation Portal, may soon receive a major update that allows players to stream their own purchased digital games directly from the cloud.
The speculation began after a Reddit post suggested that the feature had briefly appeared on the PlayStation Store. Gaming forum ResetEra quickly picked up the discussion, with users debating whether the update is imminent or simply a misinterpreted leak.
Currently, PlayStation Plus Premiumsubscribers can stream select titles from Sony’s catalog to their PS5 consoles and, in beta form, to the Portal. However, the ability to stream a user’s owned library directly to the Portal has not yet been implemented. At present, streaming games that you own can only be done through the PS5 itself.
If true, the update would mark a significant evolution for the Portal, aligning it more closely with the growing trend of cloud-based gaming. Still, until Sony makes an official statement, the feature remains firmly in the realm of rumour.
