In September, American Express announced its new $895 annual fee for the American Express Platinum Card® (see rates and fees) — a 29% jump from its previous $695 annual fee. Even loyal cardmembers questioned whether the premium, now the highest annual fee among major consumer credit cards, was justified.

However, an expanded suite of benefits* — including a $75 quarterly credit at Lululemon U.S. stores (excluding outlets) and online (up to $300 annually), a biannual hotel credit of up to $300 (every six months, up to $600 annually), and a $120 statement credit (each calendar year) for an Uber One membership (subject to auto-renewal) — helped ease the sting.

For restaurant enthusiasts, though, the most compelling addition may have been the Resy credit. Platinum cardmembers now receive up to $100 in statement credits each quarter (up to $400 annually) when dining at participating U.S. Resy restaurants and paying with their Platinum Card. (No reservation required.)

With thousands of acclaimed restaurants on the platform — from neighborhood gems to Michelin-starred destinations — we’ve rounded up the best spots to make your quarterly credit count.

What is the Amex Platinum’s $100 quarterly Resy credit?

Platinum cardholders get up to $100 in statement credits each quarter (up to $400 a year) to use at eligible U.S. restaurants on Resy. And even though Resy is a reservation platform, you don’t need to make a reservation for the credit to be applied. Pay with your Platinum Card at a participating restaurant, and the credit will typically appear on your statement within a few days.

(The American Express® Gold Card offers a similar Resy credit up to $100 per year at participating U.S. Resy restaurants — split into two $50 biannual credits — and certain Delta Amex cards now offer similar perks.)

You’ll need to enroll through your Amex account before dining, and note that unused funds don’t roll over, so it pays to plan one excellent meal each quarter. With more than 10,000 restaurants on Resy, there’s no shortage of options to use at home or when you travel.

Penny, New York City

One surprising thing about Penny, the 31-seat seafood counter and raw bar in New York City’s East Village, is how chef Joshua Pinsky and his team manage to make something as seemingly simple as a shrimp cocktail so extraordinary. From the stuffed squid to the ice cream sandwich served for dessert, every dish at Penny hits that magic balance of understated and unforgettable. Start with the sesame brioche and the Ice Box — a tray of oysters, clams, mussels and that shrimp cocktail, plus rotating crudo — paired with a glass of wine on the deep list from Michelin’s 2024 Sommelier Award winner.

Emeril’s, New Orleans

EMERIL’S/FACEBOOK

Emeril’s, the New Orleans icon that first opened in 1990 and helped define modern Creole cuisine, has entered an effervescent new era under E.J. Lagasse, son of chef Emeril Lagasse. Dancerobot, Philadelphia

A high-energy new izakaya by acclaimed Philadelphia-based chefs Jesse Ito (of Royal Sushi & Izakaya fame) and partner Justin Bacharach, Dancerobot features a delightful and delicious menu of Japanese comfort food riffs. You’ll find wagyu roast beef, katsu curry, pizza toast on housemade Japanese milk bread, and crispy takoyaki, or fried octopus balls. Order the Melon Yuzu Drop, a frozen cocktail made with tequila, melon liqueur and yuzu. And don’t skip dessert: The Hokkaido milk soft serve comes topped with lemon curd-filled taiyaki.

Kasama, Chicago

By day, Kasama in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village is a charming bakery and cafe. By night, it transforms into a reservation-only, 13-course tasting experience. Both experiences showcase the dazzling interpretations of Filipino cuisine by chefs Timothy Flores and Genie Kwon. Line up for black truffle croissants and ube and coconut ensaymada in the morning. Then, return (with a reservation) in the evening for dishes like sinigang (a tangy soup) and lamb-belly kare-kare. In 2022, Kasama became the world’s first Filipino restaurant to receive a Michelin star.

Albi, Washington, D.C.

ALBI/FACEBOOK

Albi in Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood, channels the warmth of the Levant through the wood-fire cooking of chef Michael Rafidi, a 2024 James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Chef. The menu at the Michelin-starred restaurant celebrates bold Palestinian flavors, featuring dishes such as barbecued lamb kebabs, Maryland blue crab atop hummus and brown-butter knafeh with frozen yogurt.

FIG, Charleston

FIG CHARLESTON/FACEBOOK

A cornerstone of Charleston’s food renaissance, FIG (short for “food is good”) has been setting the standard since 2003. Chef Mike Lata and team marry seasonal Low Country ingredients with French technique in dishes like ricotta gnocchi alla Bolognese and seared golden tilefish. With a James Beard Award for its wine program and an enduring charm that has endured for over two decades, FIG remains the city’s benchmark for refined Southern cuisine.

Sunny’s Steakhouse, Miami

In Miami’s Little River neighborhood, Sunny’s is a big, buzzy, joyful steakhouse. The restaurant was named Eater Miami’s Best New Restaurant in 2024, and it earned a spot on The New York Times’ list of the Best Restaurants in America the following year. Book a table on the sprawling outdoor courtyard to feast on Parker House rolls with honey butter, crab agnolotti and steaks cooked over a live wood fire. And order a martini from the menu of countless variations.

Atomix, New York City

ATOMIX/FACEBOOK

The two-Michelin-starred Atomix, led by husband-and-wife team chef Junghyun “JP” and Ellia Park, is a masterclass in modern Korean fine dining. The 12-course tasting menu rotates seasonally but always includes exquisite dishes, such as lamb with deodeok — an earthy, sweet and nutty Korean root vegetable — and butterfish with white kimchi and XO sauce. Atomix recently earned the top slot in North America on the World’s 50 Best list. The couple’s more casual restaurant, Atoboy, is also on Resy.

Holbox, Los Angeles

HOLBOX/FACEBOOK

A bright, counter-service spot inside South LA’s Mercado La Paloma, Holbox by chef Gilberto Cetina Jr. is a celebration of Mexican coastal cooking. The menu focuses on pristine, sustainably sourced seafood: kanpachi and uni-topped tostadas, braised and fried octopus tacos, and aguachile with spot prawns and bay scallops. With a Michelin star and a Restaurant of the Year award from the Los Angeles Times in 2023, Holbox is proof that world-class dining doesn’t require a white tablecloth.

Liholiho Yacht Club, San Francisco

With its open kitchen, tropical cocktails and shareable plates made for a feast among friends, Ravi Kapur’s Liholiho Yacht Club in San Francisco’s Lower Nob Hill neighborhood is pure fun. Kapur, a Food and Wine Best New Chef alum, specializes in dishes that mix Polynesian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean flavors. Try the famous poppy-seed steam bun stuffed with beef tongue and kimchi, or the swordfish katsu.

Maximize the Resy credit

Make sure to use your full quarterly $100 credit in a single dining charge. If your bill is less than $100, you won’t get the difference later, so plan to use it all at once. With so many Resy restaurants, it’s worth double-checking before you swipe your Amex Platinum.

Bottom line

The Amex Platinum’s Resy credit is one of the easiest (and most delicious) ways to offset the card’s high annual fee. If you plan ahead and use the full $100 each quarter, you’ll turn a credit into four great meals a year at some of the country’s best restaurants.
