Surprisingly, one of the biggest requests for this year’s gift guide series was for items for the men in your life. Shopping for men is not nearly as difficult as you may believe. My advice is to skip the latest tech fads (unless it is this), the kitchen/grilling tools, the barware items, and all of the hyper specific sports equipment. I’m under the impression that the guys in my life know those areas better than I do.
The gifts I tend to gravitate towards giving are nicer apparel or accessory pieces that stand the test of time. One helpful trick is to pair your specific gift with it’s intent and/or details of the product. For example, “I love this jacket and I know you will have it forever. You can wear it on our next trip upstate!” or “This color always looks great on you. This sweater is cashmere and perfect for date night.” A little flattery and storytelling can go a long way in making your gift feel special and appreciated.
If you don’t want to give clothing, two other ideas – experiences and personalization. Offer to pay for a something he loves doing – a scheduled golf trip with buddies for example. Or, make the gift personal and attach it to something sentimental – like a personalized pet portrait. How cute are these ideas – here, here, and here?
