Julian Alvarez remains committed to Atletico Madrid, though the World Cup-winning striker is open to representing Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain in the future.

Alvarez joined Diego Simeone’s side from Manchester City in a deal worth up to €95m (£81.8m) last year, having won six major trophies in two seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

He has scored 38 goals and supplied 12 assists in 71 appearances for Atleti across all competitions.

Only six players from Europe’s top five leagues – Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Serhou Guirassy and Mohamed Salah – have outscored him since his move.

Prior to joining Los Colchoneros, Alvarez was strongly linked with Barcelona, and in an interview with L’Equipe, he refused to rule out a move to Catalonia in the future.

“Do I plan on playing at Barcelona or at PSG? Honestly, I don’t know,” Alvarez said.

“I see what people say on social media… in Spain, people speak a lot about me and Barcelona. For now, I am focused on Atletico, and we will review at the end of the season.”

Alvarez also revealed his representatives held talks with PSG prior to his move to Atleti being finalised, saying: “When I signed for Atletico, we spoke a lot about Paris. It’s true.

“There were discussions between the PSG hierarchy and my agent. They showed interest in signing me, but it didn’t happen.”

Alvarez has nine goal involvements in LaLiga this campaign (five goals, four assists), with only Mbappe (13 goals, two assists) supplying more.
