Vergil Ortiz Jr. wipes out Erickson Lubin to set up “Boots” Ennis showdown
Vergil Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) set up a 2026 mega-fight with Jaron “Boots” Ennis after making short work of Erickson Lubin.
Texan superstar Vergil Ortiz Jr. didn’t give Erickson Lubin any chance to pull off an upset, scoring a swift second round TKO victory in Fort Worth, Texas, in the main event of a Golden Boy card , live on DAZN.
Vergil trapped Lubin on the ropes to batter “The Hammer” into submission. Out on his feet from a head shot, the referee rightly stepped in to stop the action in round two.
Ortiz Jr. is the WBC Interim super-welterweight champion, his latest win was his second defence of the green and gold belt.
He defeated Serhii Bohachuk in August 2024 (MD 12) to win the title, then defended it successfully to highly-rated Israil Madrimov (UD 12) in February this year.
The American is now unbeaten in 24 bouts with a fearsome 91.67% KO ratio.
The 27-year-old from Dallas has now likely set up a huge fight in 2026 with Jaron Ennis.
