Sixt Rent a Car launched a new loyalty program for U.S.-based residents, known as Sixt One. The updated program has switched to a spending-based model, which now features a new points-earning structure, updated elite status tiers and the ability to redeem your points for car rentals.

With over 2,200 locations (80 in the U.S.) in more than 105 countries, members can enjoy some valuable (and even time-saving) perks just by signing up. Here’s what to know about the new program and how you can get rewarded on your next rental car.

How to earn and redeem Sixt One points

With the new Sixt One program, members will earn rental points and status points on the base rate, mileage and protection charges. Since Sixt is a European-based company, points will be calculated based on euros and credited to your account within a few business days.

Members will earn 1 point for every 1 euro (about $1.15) spent on qualifying rentals (excluding taxes and fees). By accruing rental points, members will be able to redeem rewards to save on bookings. A spokesperson for Sixt confirmed to TPG that members will be able to cover up to a seven-day car rental using points.

To redeem your Sixt points, log in to your account; after selecting your vehicle, there will be a points payment option on the “Review your booking” page. Luckily, you can allocate the number of points you want to redeem, which is great if you don’t have enough points to cover a full car rental.

While you can use points to cover your booking, you still have to pay applicable taxes, fees, surcharges and additional product protections or add-ons.

Note that rental points expire after 24 months.

Earn points with partner programs

If earning Sixt One rental points does not interest you, the program also partners with numerous airline and hotel brands. You can opt to earn points or miles with your preferred loyalty program.

For example, Delta SkyMiles is a partner program. According to Sixt One’s partner page, you can earn 2 miles per dollar spent on every rental. So, if you value earning SkyMiles more, you could earn miles to help you book your next flight.

To swap your earning preference, log in to your account and click “Sixt One” in the upper left-hand corner. Then, scroll down to the bottom and click “Change rewards program.”

You will then click on “Partner rewards program” as your earning option. When you are booking a car rental through Sixt, you will be able to select the program with which you’d like to earn points or miles when you complete your booking.

Sixt One elite status tiers

Prior to the loyalty program overhaul, Sixt One only had three tiers; the highest elite status tier, Diamond, was invitation-only. The program now has four tiers, introducing Silver as an entry-level tier, which comes with notable perks.

Here’s a breakdown of each status tier and the benefits you’ll receive.

Silver status (free to join)

  • Earn status points (1 point per 1 euro, or about $1.15, spent on rentals, excluding taxes and fees)
  • Skip the counter: Use the Sixt app to check in online and skip the line (available at select locations)
  • Priority service lanes (available at select locations)
  • Member-only offers

Gold status (2,000 status points)

You’ll receive the same benefits as Silver status, plus:

  • Earn 10% more rental points
  • Up to a 10% discount

Platinum status (4,000 status points)

You’ll receive the same benefits as Gold, plus:

  • Earn 20% more rental points
  • Up to a 15% discount
  • Eligible for free upgrades

Diamond status (6,000 status points)

You’ll receive the same benefits as Platinum, plus:

  • Earn 30% more rental points
  • Up to a 20% discount
  • Diamond lounge access

If you’re flying out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or select locations in Europe, be sure to check out the Sixt Diamond Lounge for eligible elite members.

As a Diamond member, you’ll receive expedited VIP assistance from on-site rental car agents, plus:

  • Priority access to premium cars
  • Snack bar and refreshments
  • Wi-Fi
  • Expedited check-in and checkout

Similar to most other loyalty programs, your Sixt One status is valid through the end of the following calendar year. For example, if you achieve Platinum status in June 2026, you’ll have Platinum status through December 2027. If you earned Sixt status prior to the program’s overhaul, you will keep your existing status tier as long as your account is still active and you enroll in Sixt One by November 2027.

Bottom line

Whether you’re a frequent traveler or not, Sixt One is a free-to-join loyalty program that immediately gives you perks and benefits. Seriously, it’s worth signing up just to gain access to the priority lanes at the rental car desk, which can expedite your waiting time.

With Sixt revamping its loyalty program to a spending-based model, it would be great to see elite status offered as a perk on a premium credit card.
