DJI has unveiled the Neo 2, its latest compact drone designed for beginners and casual users who want a personal “follow-me” camera experience. The successor of the DJI Neo arrives weighing only 151 grams, being DJI’s lightest and smallest drone yet to feature omnidirectional obstacle sensing, ensuring safer flights and easy usability. The model introduces new intuitive features like gesture control, palm take-off and landing, and voice control, offering multiple ways to operate the drone without a remote controller. A small onboard display shows the selected shooting mode, and the innovative Return-to-Palm feature allows the drone to locate and land safely on the user’s hand.
The Neo 2’s gesture controls enable users to move the drone up, down, or sideways using one hand or both hands together for directional control. Voice commands can also be issued through a smartphone or Bluetooth headset. For users seeking extended control, the Neo 2 can connect to the DJI RC-N3 remote controller, achieving a 10 km transmission range, or be paired with motion controllers and FPV goggles for an immersive flying experience.
In terms of imaging, the Neo 2 carries a 12MP 1/2-inch CMOS sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, stabilized by a 2-axis gimbal and powered by a high-performance image processor. It supports 4K video at up to 100 fps for slow-motion footage and 2.7K vertical video optimized for social media. The upgraded ActiveTrack system enhances subject tracking, maintaining stable and fluid shots at speeds of up to 12 m/s. The new SelfieShot mode automatically adjusts framing—waist-up, full-body, or long shots—making it easier to capture solo or group moments without additional equipment.
Neo 2 also incorporates DJI’s intelligent shooting modes:
- Dolly Zoom, for the cinematic Hitchcock effect;
- QuickShots, offering pre-programmed flight patterns like Dronie, Circle, Rocket, and Boomerang;
- MasterShots, which automatically records, edits, and adds music to footage for effortless video creation.
Safety has been a key focus, with omnidirectional obstacle sensing, forward LiDAR, and downward infrared systems for real-time detection. Integrated propeller guards and improved hovering capabilities further enhance beginner confidence. With Level 5 wind resistance, 19 minutes of flight time, and 49GB internal storage, Neo 2 aims to offer stability and convenience. Footage can be wirelessly transferred to the DJI Fly app at up to 80 MB/s, enabling quick editing and sharing.
Pricing information is not yet available for the US market, but we know that the drone will be offered in 4 different bundles. In Canada, the prices start at $229.
