Samsung unveiled the Galaxy XR headset last month, and its next product in the series will be a pair of glasses, as per multiple previous rumors.
Its first pair of XR glasses has now been identified as having the model number SM-O200P. The “O” in that model number confirms we’re not just talking about another headset, since the Galaxy XR’s model number has “I” in it in the place of the “O”.
Meta Ray-Ban glasses
Samsung’s first XR glasses might be akin to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, and in fact past rumors said the Korean company would launch a pair without a screen first, in 2026, then followed by a pair with a screen in 2027.
The first pair of glasses allegedly has Transitions lenses, which means they automatically get darker when exposed to sunlight and become transparent when indoors. Transitions is a registered trademark of EssilorLuxottica, maker of Ray-Ban and a ton of other brands, so it will be interesting to see if Samsung will also use these lenses, like Meta, or just Transitions-like photochromic ones.
Like Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, Samsung’s will also have a camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. But they add a mobile data connection which the Meta glasses lack. Samsung has already registered the name Galaxy Glasses, so there’s a big possibility that this is what these may be called.
The Galaxy Glasses will definitely launch in the US, and of course other markets as well, but those haven’t been leaked yet.
