How China is Taking over Africa?

China is taking over Africa by infrastructure development, economic dominance and bilateral relationships.
China is massively building railroads, power generation, especially hydropower projects. Data from World Bank and African development Bank shows Chinese contractors secured significant share of contracts in civil works particularly in Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

China became Africa’s largest trading partner after surpassing the United States. China also exploiting African raw materials such as metals, minerals, and fuel. The coups in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso helped China to increase its influence because Coup leaders became hostile to western powers.

China made strategic investments in sectors like telecommunications, energy, agriculture in Africa. By gaining control over key industries, Beijing can influence over these sectors and shape economy of Africa.
China established a military base in Djibouti, and has potential plans for additional bases Atlantic coasts. It raises questions about China’s long-term objectivities.

China’s loans through the Belt and Road Initiative lead to debt traps, where Africa countries become heavily indebted to China potentially compromising sovereignty.
