EXCLUSIVE: SkyShowtime has ordered a third season of Veronika ahead of Season 2 of the Swedish crime drama bowing next month. It marks the first time that NBCUniversal and Paramount-backed European steamer SkyShowtime has greenlit a third outing for one of its originals.
Along with the news we’ve got the Season 2 launch date – it drops on SkyShowtime on December 8. The first Season of the drama bowed on the European SVOD service in 2024. It follows a relentless police detective Veronika Gren, who is taking meds to suppress the troubling visions that haunt her, adding a paranormal element to the crime drama genre.
Alexandra Rapaport returns in the title role in the new seasons. Tobias Santelmann stars as Tomas, her husband, and Arvin Kananian plays Nassir, a fellow cop. The returning cast also includes Eddie Eriksson Dominguez and Sarah Rhodin. Gustav Hammarsten and Hanna Alström join the show as new cast members.
Season 2 will pick up the story from the sophomore run and provide an entry point for new viewers, the producers said. Veronika finds herself in the middle of a perplexing murder mystery that is rooted 60 years back in time, in the freshman Season. Per the synopsis: “Season 2 continues to follow Veronika, who is still struggling with the repercussions of her past and her mysterious visions. Torn between the world of the living and the dead, Veronika’s facade begins to crack, and an inevitable chain of events puts everything she’s worked to rebuild at risk.”
Mikael Håfström, who was Oscar-nominated for his film Evil, directs. The show was created and written by Katja Juras and Anna Ströman (Gåsmamman). Rapaport is an executive producer. Season 3 will bow in 2026.
