Never letting frill or fancy supersede performance, British boutique electronics company KEF has long been the preference of sound aficionados and serious audiophiles. The producer was an early proponent of using synthetic materials, letting these components stand in service of sound quality and adaptable functionality. The newly released Muo Bluetooth Speaker – a portable derivation of the legendary Muon Hifi – stands testament to that tradition of innovation.

Evoking the futuristic and radically curvilinear profile of the 1997 Ross Lovegrove-designed Muon loudspeaker – priced similar to a midrange sports car—the compact device is a far more accessible iteration but no less powerful. Such is the evolution of sound technology over the past two decades. The amorphous cylindrical form – also imagined by the renowned Welsh designer – is a slightly more toned down iteration of the now iconic six-foot tall totemic design.

A person in a white swimsuit is in a swimming pool, resting one arm on the pool edge near a portable speaker placed on the deck.

“Muo reflects our continued commitment to audio excellence and thoughtful design,” says Grace Lo, President and Head of Global Marketing at KEF. It’s equipped with a Bluetooth 5.4 aptX Adaptive system that produces high-fidelity and low-latency audio; delivers powerful bass, crisp details and richness. Together, this accounts for a far more immersive listening experience than most comparable products provide.

Fully manufactured using post-consumer plastic upcycled from discarded household applications and mobile devices – another innovation—the portable speaker is impressively water and dust proof. Up to 24-hour battery life and an integrated microphone are additional draws.

The Music Integrity Engine (MIE) – KEF’s proprietary suite of DSP algorithms – is put to the ultimate test in Muo with the integration of a limiter and Dynamic Bass Boost, elements borrowed from the flagship LS60 Wireless HiFi speakers.

“As a new generation of our portable speaker, it builds on KEF’s refined acoustic engineering, allowing more people to experience high-fidelity sound at any chosen moment, seamlessly integrating into their daily life,” Lo adds. “Muo doesn’t just deliver great sound, it celebrates personal style and individuality.”

A wooden sideboard with drawers holds books, a camera, two black speakers, and a decorative bowl; a modern chair and a lit lamp on a side table are nearby.

Available in trend conscious tones like Silver Dusk, Amber Haze, Orange Moon, Moss Green, Blue Aura, Cocoa Brown, and Midnight Black, the speakers are 1000-times less expensive than its predecessor. It connects seamlessly with Google Fast Pair or Microsoft Swift Pair system with just a single tap. The KEF Connect app lets users easily control its various settings.
