Playing online with your friends on PlayStation 5 is fun; having to deal with your mic constantly echoing is not. If you’re experiencing an echo every time you speak into your mic, you likely think it’s just an issue with the headset you’re using. However, there are a few things you can do to try fixing the issue before going out and purchasing a whole new microphone.
Methods of Fixing Mic Echo on PS5
There are three different fixes for mic echo on the PS5 you can try before ditching the effort and going straight to purchasing a new microphone:
- Adjust microphone levels.
- Adjust the headphones’ output volume.
- Check external microphone settings.
I detailed how to go about each of these potential fixes down below.
Adjust Microphone Levels
It’s very likely that you or your friends are hearing an echo because of the microphone’s audio levels. To fix that, follow these instructions:
- Go to the Settings.
- Head to the Sound option.
- Go into the Microphone settings.
Here, adjust the microphone’s sensitivity and volume. Then, test the microphone with your friends to see if that worked.
Adjust Headphones
If there is still an echo whenever you use your mic, then try adjusting the output volume on your headphones by following these instructions:
- Using the same instructions as above, go to the Volume option instead of Microphone.
- Here, lower your headphone’s output volume.
- Check if you can manually lower the volume on the headset as well.
It’s likely that your headphones were so loud that the mic was picking them up, resulting in an echo.
Check External Mic Settings
Lastly, if none of the above worked, then check to see if your microphone has any additional settings. For example, check to ensure that any cables are properly connected. If your microphone is separate from your headphones, then check to ensure that it’s properly connected to the console and turned on. You will likely also need to turn it in a different direction from something that might cause an echo, such as a ceiling fan.
