A Truly Horrible Idea Or Just A Masochistic Exercise?
Those if us who are fans of the original Fallout series are a different breed from those who started their post-apocalyptic journey in Fallout 3. The old isometric games would have problems attracting fans today, that style of gameplay has fallen to the wayside in the AAA market. There are some games like Baldur’s Gate 3 which are a new hybrid of isometric play, but still retain enough 3D to be able to entice today’s jaded gamers. There is also the content of the original Fallout games; today it would be frowned upon for your main character to become a drug dealer and slaver in order to deal with their crippling Rad-X addiction. There was also a rather controversial action that wouldn’t fly today, well maybe with one exception.
Fallout 4: Project Arroyo is an attempt to give today’s gamers a chance to experience the story of Fallout 2 but in the first person that they are now used to. There are numerous set piece battles where the new version of VATS is going to have a hard time with, they were designed for a proper full freeze of the action. Those will need to be changed, and the team designing Fallout 4: Project Arroyo have accepted that they can’t just replicate Fallout 2, they need to change up the search for the GECK somewhat.
There’s a video of the work in progress if you dare take a look.
