Edia Smart Media Company, the Hitotsubashi, Chiyoda City, Tokyo, Japan company currently known for retro game compilations such as the upcoming Earnest Evans Collection, announced that it’s entered a licensing agreement with Takara Tomy to port the PS1 era weapons fighter to- well, “all modern platforms”.
Battle Area Toshinden, 3D generation partner to the Virtua Fighter series that was developed by Tamsoft, and published by formerly ‘just’ Takara, now merged for nineteen years with Tomy as Takara Tomy, last had a Japan-only rerelease for the PS3, PSVITA and Playstation Portable in Japan, and the PAL version on the Playstation Classic in 2018. Battle Arena Toshinden 2 and 3 have, to this contributor’s knowledge, never had an official re-release until now. This announcement comes towards the end of what is the original title’s 30th year anniversary, and comes as presumably a pleasant surprise to a considerable number of people.
There is yet to be a confirmed release date, but current plans are for it’s release somewhere in the fiscal years 2026 to 2027.
