🍛 What is Pilau Rice
Pilau rice is probably your rice of choice when visiting your favourite curry house. It’s bold yellow colour (which comes naturally from turmeric, rather than artificial colouring) and rich flavour make it a much more interesting companion to your curry than plain boiled rice. It is thought to originate from Iran or elsewhere in the Middle East, and now you are able to make it yourself at home by following our recipe!
🛒 Ingredients:
2-3 tablespoons of oil
½ a chopped onion
1 ½ tablespoons of salt
Bay leaves
Cumin seeds
Coriander seeds
Black pepper
¼ tablespoon of turmeric
¼ tablespoon of chilli powder
2 cups of water
1 cup of rice
📖 Recipe
1) Add 2-3 tablespoons of oil to your pan.
2) Fry half an onion on medium heat, so that it cooks all the way through.
3) Add 1 ½ tablespoons of salt and stir in.
4) Add a pinch of bay leaves, cumin and black pepper.
5) Add 1 tablespoon of tumeric and 1 tablespoon of chilli powder.
6) Add 2 cups of water and stir until you get a nice colour.
7) Leave the water to boil on full heat.
8) Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of rice and stir it in.
9) Cover the pan and leave it to boil for 10 minutes.
10) Check on the rice, stir and leave it to boil for another 10 minutes.
11) Turn the heat to low and leave to simmer, covering the pan with foil.
12) After 5 minutes, take the foil off and check whether the rice is cooked. Leave for longer if necessary.
13) Serve up to eat with your favourite curry!
