On Saturday, May 10, 2025, in Brest, at the invitation of French Prime Minister François Bayrou, Haitian Ambassador to France Louino Volcy, accompanied by a delegation, participated in the official commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade, Slavery, and Their Abolition, which was held in Brest on May 10, 2025.
In the presence of the President of the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery, Jean-Marc Ayrault, this event provided an opportunity for Ambassador Volcy to meet with Prime Minister François Bayrou and to discuss with the Mayor of Brest, François Cuillandre, the possibilities for cooperation between Haitian and Breton municipalities.
It should be noted that the bicentennial of the royal ordinance of Charles X (the ransom paid to France) was at the heart of the speeches marking this commemorative day.
