Sarah Jessica Parker is opening up about why she almost backed out of starring in Sex and the City after filming the pilot.

The 60-year-old actress recently discussed the early days of the HBO series while appearing on her co-star Kristin Davis‘ podcast Are You a Charlotte?

SJP also stepped out this week to attend the PEN America Spring Literary Gala on Thursday (May 15) at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. See all the photos in the gallery!

Sarah said on the podcast that she had a “lovely” time filming the Sex and the City pilot, but she had second thoughts when the show got picked up by HBO.

“When the show was picked up, I panicked,” she said (via Page Six). “I was like, ‘I can’t be on a TV show. I don’t think I’m suited for that life.’”

SJP said her agents encouraged her to do the show for a year and see how she felt after that.

“It’s very hard to explain. It also kind of depressed me. I think that it was the idea of doing the same thing over and over and over again,” she said, bringing up her past TV experiences. “They had shorter lives — maybe one or two seasons — and then I moved on.”

Ultimately, SJP says she was “absolutely wrong” to have those reservations.
