Born in 1925, Frantz Fanon died in 1961. The Mémoires & Partages network celebrates Frantz Fanon’s centenary by honoring his struggle for justice and equality in a world still marked by discrimination. This year, readings and round tables are being held in May—the month of Memories of Colonial Slavery [Mémoires de l’esclavage colonial]—in Bordeaux and Paris, in partnership with Darwin, l’Eco-Système de la caserne niel (located at Les Chantiers de la Garonne, 21, quai des Queyries, Bordeaux) and Consulat Voltaire (14 Avenue Parmentier, Paris).
Tonight, May 14, 2025, at 7:00pm, Cinéma La Brèche will host “Ciné-Rencontre Fanon”—a screening of Fanon, the biopic by Jean-Claude Barny, at 140 Rue de la République, Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. Followed by a conversation with Karfa Diallo, director and founder of the Mémoires & Partages Association.
On Saturday, May 17, at 4:00pm, with the support of the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery [Fondation pour la Mémoire de l’Esclavage], Mémoires & Partages presents a round table entitled “L’Héritage de Frantz Fanon Aujourd’hui” [Frantz Fanon’s Legacy Today] and Public Readings of Peau noire, masques blancs et Les Damnés de la terre by actors Arnaud Baudoin and Olivier Demba Sow, and members of the audience.
The round table includes Suzanne Dracius (writer from Martinique); Olivier Fanon (diplomat, Frantz Fanon’s son); Benaouda Lebdai (specialist in colonial and postcolonial literature and professor at universities in Algeria and the University of Angers in France); and Marie-France Malonga (media sociologist, PhD in Information and Communication Sciences, specializing in the social and media representations of minorities).
