Naomi is getting real about the personal toll her TNA Wrestling stint took on her marriage—and how it helped her grow in ways she never expected.
During her appearance on The Nikki & Brie Show on YouTube, the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion opened up about spending nearly a year apart from her husband, Jimmy Uso (Jon Fatu), for the first time in their relationship.
Naomi, whose real name is Trinity Fatu, was asked how things were with her husband and didn’t hold back about the emotional impact of the separation.
“I think the hardest was when I did leave and go to TNA. And that was the first time ever that he and I hadn’t been together. Like, we’ve always been on the road year-round from the time we got together.”
She admitted the distance was jarring at first.
“So having that space away from each other was very different.”
At one point, she even thought the break might be good for her.
“I realized I thought I liked it at first and I thought it was a good break and I needed it… because I’m so clingy to Jon. I rely on him for everything.”
But the time apart ended up pushing Naomi to stand on her own—both personally and professionally.
“That was a good growth for me to be more confident in myself—as far as like entertaining and work—and like, trust myself in the ring, not ask him a million questions about my matches: ‘What do you think?’”
“Just traveling and seeing the world and doing all that stuff by myself was big growth for me.”
It wasn’t just her who had to adjust—she said Jimmy Uso felt the change too.
“And him too—not having me there to keep that knucklehead out of trouble and say, ‘Don’t do this. Don’t do that. Come here, Jon.’”
Eventually, the space did what it needed to do, and Naomi said she knew when it was time to go home.
“After almost a year, I was like, ‘Okay. Mama—it’s time for mama to come on home.’”
The couple, who’ve been side-by-side through years of tag team tours, title runs, and life on the road, clearly found a new rhythm during their time apart—and Naomi came back stronger for it.
