“There is a saying by Steve Jobs which says “the only way to great work is if you love what you do”. As a novice in the field of dentistry, I did not have much experience with the subject. With half knowledge and minimal practical training, I was completely lost in my career.
I found out about the general dentistry course through my seniors and I suddenly felt a ray of hope. I immediately decided to join the program and up skill my clinical knowledge. After completing this course today, I can confidently say that I have started loving dentistry and a strong sense of motivation to keep learning and growing.
Dr. Rajat Sachdeva is an excellent clinician who has a knack of estimating the student’s level of expertise, and then working his way up from there. I must admit that he was extremely patient with us and gave us ample opportunities to learn. The curriculum of the course was brilliant and almost every possible case scenarios were covered.
We first started off with our preclinical training wherein we practiced RCTs and crown cutting. We learnt everything about tooth preparation for a crown, veneers, inlays and onlays, different finish lines – when and where to use it and much more. Before we performed the procedure on patients, we were made to practice on casts of the same patient multiple times.
The ultimate goal was to develop a finger memory so that we can duplicate it flawlessly in the mouth. We also learnt different suturing techniques like horizontal sutures, vertical sutures, figure of 8, interrupted and uninterrupted sutures – when to use them. Although most of these procedures are familiar to us, but through this training, I am now proficient in performing these the right way independently.
The most striking feature of this course which makes it different from others is that they focus on getting the basics right for any technique and not just jumping on to the results.
The way every technique was approached and taught in a systematic manner was really appreciable. I did not only learn how to perform these basic general dental procedures confidently but also I understand the science behind every step. This prepares me to deal with any case that comes across in my practice.
I am really thankful and glad that I have pursued such a course so early in my career, as this training is definitely going to be a strong foundation on which I can keep advancing my knowledge further.
