Minneapolis-based pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack has announced their first album in 10 years.

The band, consisting of lead Justin Pierre, guitarist Joshua Cain, bassist Matt Taylor, keyboardist Jesse Johnson, and drummer Tony Thaxton, parted ways and took a hiatus after their 2015 album Panic Stations. In 2019, the band reunited to play live again and conceptualize the upcoming album The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World, due this fall.

This album is a more experimental one, according to an announcement from the band, and a tough one to make at that. For this record, the band chose to work with producer Sean O’Keefe (whose credits include Fall Out Boy and Plain White T’s) at the Chicago recording studio Electrical Audio.

“ It’s a very interesting thing to feel like we made the most important record of our career this late in the game,” Johnson said in a statement. “ You might have some callbacks to some older stuff but it wasn’t intentional, it was because we were just being ourselves.”

The band’s seventh studio album includes a song co-written with and featuring Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump called “Particle Physics.” Other features include Citizen’s Mat Kerekes and Sincere Engineer’s Deanna Belos.

The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World releases September 19. The lead single, “She Is Afraid,” is out today along with a music video. The band has not released any music since “Stop Talking” in last year’s film Didi. The band is also set to perform at this year’s Minnesota Yacht Club music festival on July 18.
