Could Mugwort Help You Receive Guidance in Your Dreams?

Last night I had dreams that left me disturbed and sad all day. I am in the habit of paying attention to dreams that wake me up first thing in the morning. I have found that dreams like that often have a piece of guidance for me or are there to show me something that I’ve been ignoring in my waking life. But this morning the dreams were telling me that there were beings on the other side that wanted to send me some guidance and one was my mother! But they didn’t tell me what the guidance was or, if they did, it made no sense. I don’t remember what was said. All I remember is that it didn’t make sense and I didn’t get to talk to my mother at all. By the end of my work day I was tired of feeling sad for no known reason and finally talked it out with my partner Paul. That helped me acknowledge that I have been missing my mom and had been wishing I could talk with her, and then I felt a lot better.

In the midst of this, Mugwort came to mind. Both the herb and the flower essence have quite the reputation for helping you access guidance through your dreams, sometimes of a prophetic nature. I have to admit that I have never used it because I already can do this. But if I did choose to use it, I would want it for its ability to bring more lucidity to the experience or to focus my dreams on usefulness in my waking life rather than being as incomprehensible as they were last night. I might experiment with that tonight as I’ve noticed my dreams being more confusing than useful to me lately. It might be time to address that.

But there is something else Mugwort herb might help with as well. I have a summer skin rash every year since menopause that is not responding to over-the-counter antihistamines. In my research tonight I found out that making Mugwort tea and then cooling it down and using it to make a compress might help! Worth a try—maybe I’ll try that tonight, too. It is also thought to be helpful for reducing women’s reproductive complaints both at menopause and during menstruation, but Medical News Today calls that “anecdotal.” You know, an old wives’ tale (as if women haven’t needed to take care of women for millennia). Do, of course, be cautious. It’s not a good idea to use during pregnancy and some people could be allergic to it. Don’t use it if you are allergic to ragweed, celery or birch. And be aware that some people find Mugwort tea to be quite bitter (I don’t, just mildly so.) It used to be used in beer making and tastes similar to Hops which is more commonly used to make beer today.

If you are interested in dreams, you might try my Dream Wisdom flower essence formula. Mugwort flower essence is a key ingredient in that as well.

UPDATE: I tried both Mugwort Flower Essence and a Mugwort compress last night. The compress was somewhat soothing but didn’t cure the problem. Still, I think I’ll try that again. The Mugwort Flower Essence did not give me dreams—it calmed them down for me last night. BUT immediately after I woke up I remembered that I had what my mom called “prickly heat rash” every summer when I was a child. And she was constantly telling me not to scratch because scratching makes the skin react worse. (I have been scratching and it does make my skin worse so that is most likely the advice she would have for me today.) She also put what I remember as yucky pink stuff on my skin (calamine lotion) . . .  but I don’t remember that working. Of course, I might be prejudiced because as a child I hated that it was pink! I’ll try to remember not to scratch. Maybe that’s what she wanted to tell me the other night!

By the way, when I ask for guidance in my dreams (without Mugwort) the guidance I want doesn’t always come while I’m asleep. In fact, I am FAR more likely to have it be my first thought just after I wake up but am still in bed. Even though I didn’t “dream” what I needed to know, the result was the same. I haven’t been getting guidance this way very often lately, so I consider this flower essence experiment to be a success!

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products).
