Update, June 21: Apple has removed the video from YouTube. It’s not clear why.

Original article, published June 20, below.

Apple kicked off its annual Back to School promotion earlier this week, offering free AirPods and other accessories with the purchase of a new Mac or iPad.

Now, as Back to School season ramps up, Apple has shared a humorous new video telling college students “how to convince your parents to get you a Mac.”

The seven-minute video was posted to Apple’s YouTube channel today. It features incoming college students practicing how to pitch their parents on getting them a Mac instead of a PC for college.

The presenter in the video:

“Can’t put a price on a healthy spine. One of the main factors affecting spine health in teens is, you guessed it, school bag weight. And the MacBook Air only weighs 2.7 pounds. Hey, maybe your parents don’t care about your spine. I doubt that, right?”

And:

“So to wrap things up, you can either buy a MacBook Air for $899, or you can buy a PC, but you also have to buy antivirus software, a manual backup software, a protective case, a guard dog to protect it from your roommate, an external power bank…I mean, it’s insane.”

Apple has gone a step further than just the video, however. You can head to its website today to download a “Parent Presentation” that highlights “45 undeniable reasons why a Mac is essential for college.” The Parent Presentation is available for free in PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Keynote formats.
