Talking Is Power: Who Talked to You About Sex, Love, and Relationships?

In this Woman on The Street episode by Power to Decide, we asked people to tell us who gave them the “birds and the bees” talk. While the majority of young people say they learn about sex from peers or in school, most want to hear about it from their parents or other trusted adults in their lives.

#TalkingIsPower Month is a national effort to spark meaningful conversations between young people and the  champions (trusted adults) who care about them most. Champions have the influence to help  ensure that all young people have the power to decide if, when and under what circumstances to become pregnant and have a child.

We’re using the month of May to help all people embrace their inner champions. May is all about reminding parents, champions and mentors of how powerful they really are. We know our young people are listening. We also know that starting meaningful conversations about sex, love, and relationships can be a bit awkward—that’s why we’re challenging you to take the pledge today to talk to the young person in your life.
