On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that lawyers Vogly Pongnon and Lise Helda Christelle St-Natus Cavé were elected, respectively, as members of the Inter-American Juridical Committee for the 2026-2028 term and as members of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (CEJA) of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the 2026-2029 term, during elections held during the 55th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly in Saint John, Antigua and Barbuda.
The Inter-American Juridical Committee is a consultative body created in 1948 by the OAS Charter with the mission of fostering the development of international law in the Americas. This Committee is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (CEJA) was created in 1999 by the OAS General Assembly to promote the reform and strengthening of judicial systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Cavé is historically the first Haitian citizen to be appointed to this Center.
These two elections are part of the Transition period’s foreign policy, which aims to strengthen Haiti’s presence on the international stage by promoting its national expertise in multilateral institutions.
