In this one-hour webinar hosted by the Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities (ACSRC), University of Alberta’s John Parkins discusses one of his recent papers (in collaboration with Krisof Van Asshe and Kevin Jones) which links contemporary thinking on craft and craftsmanship to concepts in community development. Craft is contrasted with popular development dogmas such as innovation, planning and the knowledge economy. Their aim is to create a space for a wider array of valuing and strategizing about rural community development, supporting robust and secure relationships between local endeavors and participation within wider economies.
