Dr. Drew Pinsky remains optimistic that Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell will be able to have a greater relationship with their daughter Carly in the future.

“I’m more than hopeful. I’m confident something really good will come out of this,” Pinsky, 66, exclusively shared with Us Weekly at the 10th anniversary event of “Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald” on Wednesday, June 25. “I don’t know what they’re gonna have to go through before.”

Ever since Pinsky began hosting Teen Mom reunion shows in 2010, he has been given a front-row seat into Baltierra and Lowell’s adoption journey.

The former 16 and Pregnant stars placed daughter Carly for adoption as a newborn. While the couple originally agreed to an open adoption with Brandon and Teresa Davis, Lowell, 33, and Baltierra, 33 say they haven’t been able to see their daughter in two years.

In a May episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Pinsky revealed to Lowell and Baltierra that he had a conversation with the Davis family about Carly.

“I had really, really lovely interactions with them,” Pinsky told Us. “And I thought they were all going to meet. At the last minute, dad said, ‘She’s doing so well. I got a bad feeling about it.’ I was like, ‘I still feel like you should,’ but OK.”

While Pinsky doesn’t want to pick sides, he understands both the Davis family and Lowell and Baltierra’s points of view.

“I really think [Carly] is doing very, very well, and everybody needs to stay focused on that,” Pinsky revealed to Us. “Carly is a teenager, and she’s more interested in her peers and extracurricular activities and everyone needs to kind of calm it down. I get what Cate is worried about, and I understand why they’re upset, and I validate their feelings. But I just think if everyone stays focused on Carly, this will work itself out.”

Teen Mom stars Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell have hit back at critics who claimed they’re “bashing” daughter Carly’s adoptive parents. Lowell, 32, shared an Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 4, originally posted by Baltierra, 33, that defended the pair’s decision to speak openly about the child’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, in recent […]

Lowell and Baltierra — who also share daughters Nova, 10, Vaeda, 6, and Rya, 3 — recently vowed not to discuss Carly publicly anymore as the Davis family continues to keep Carly off of social media.

Regardless of what happens next, Pinsky continues to give credit to Lowell and Baltierra for sharing their journey with the world thanks to MTV’s long-running franchise.

“They are wonderful human beings. We still — the three of us — still talk to this day about the first time I met them,” Pinsky reflected while at STK Steakhouse in Westwood, California. “I was watching their episodes and I knew this show would have an impact on teen pregnancy in this country. … They’ve taught me about experiences of adopting.”
