Mary-Kate Olsen is not the only one rewriting the rules of beachwear for summer 2025. At least, not while Dakota Johnson is wearing summer staples most beach-goers wouldn’t think to combine with their swimsuits.
Earlier this week, Johnson was photographed hanging out with Kate Hudson on a boat in Ibiza amid rumors of her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. While the pair soaked up the sun in little triangle bikinis while yachting in the Mediterranean Sea, it was Johnson’s earlier beach ‘fit that might completely change the way you dress on vacation. A silk-satin skirt on the beach? Why not?
Well, I can certainly think of a few reasons. While a light, breathable silks are perfect for hot summer months, the fabric’s delicate nature does not bode well for the shoreline’s abrasive terrain and salty waters. And we’re not even talking about more durable, washable silk here, as Doên lists Johnson’s Elowena skirt as “dry clean only” on their website.
And while mesh ballet flats might sound like a natural beach shoe in theory, they’re probably more like a fishnet for sand and sharp seashells in practice.
And yet, Johnson looked the picture of casual elegance in her little white bikini top and low-slung silk midi skirt with a dainty floral print, which retails for $328. She paired the feminine piece with black mesh Alaïa flats and and a sea-foam green Gucci tote with bamboo handles that was seemingly pulled straight off the Fall 2025 runway.
Lest she look too put together for a day at the beach, Johnson wore her hair in an ultra-long, semi-undone side braid, capping off the entire look with a beige and blue baseball cap that tied in perfectly with the florals on her skirt. You can see the photos here and here.
Suddenly, I’m thinking of risking my most delicate items to look even half as chic as Dakota Johnson…
