The South African government has consented to the burial of the late former President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu, in that country.
A statement released late Monday by the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lomola, still emphasised that a state burial in Zambia would have represented the most fitting tribute to honour former President Lungu’s distinguished legacy and service to the Zambian nation.
However, Lomola acknowledged the legal obligation to respect the expressed wishes of the late former president’s immediate family, who are currently residents in South Africa, where the former Zambian president died on the 5th of June, 2025.
