Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is keen on joining Manchester United, as per reports.

Earlier on Monday, a report in Italy suggested United are working on Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra. However, the suggestion was quickly termed “wide of the mark” by the Daily Mail’s Nathan Salt.

It is believed United remain focused on securing the services of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Further, considering their limited budget, it is difficult to see them making a concrete move for a high-profile midfielder like Guerra this summer.

In recent weeks, United have been strongly linked with Ndidi, partly due to the midfielder’s bargain release clause.

The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his contract at King Power Stadium but the deal includes a £9 million escape clause, which came into effect following Leicester City’s relegation.

The clause has made the Nigeria international a sought-after name in the market. However, Ndidi has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

That is according to former Wigan Athletic striker and his close friend Julius Aghahowa.

Aghahowa told Africa Foot: “While Everton and Al-Ahli are clearly interested, Ndidi hopes to join Manchester United. He wants to take a step up by signing for a big club like Manchester United.

“This would be an excellent move for someone I consider one of the best African midfielders of recent years. He’s powerful, capable of pressing, winning back balls, and opening up the game with his long diagonal runs.”

Ndidi certainly has the profile and experience to succeed under Ruben Amorim.

With Casemiro, 33, not getting any younger and Manuel Ugarte yet to cement his place in the starting lineup, it would make sense for United to sign a midfielder like Ndidi in a cut-price deal.
