London, 10 July. The Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Karl Sternberg and Sir John Redwood to its Board of Trustees.

Karl Sternberg brings a wealth of experience from the financial sector, having served as Chief Investment Officer at Deutsche Asset Management and as a founding partner at Oxford Investment Partners. He is currently a non-executive director at several financial institutions, including Capital Gearing Trust and Monks Investment Trust.

Commenting on his appointment, he said:

“I am pleased to become a trustee of this important charity. It does not take a collective view on the extent or causes of global warming. It provides a safe harbour for ongoing scientific discussion. Disagreement allows us to appreciate truth.

“More importantly, for me, is that our public policy response should be a matter for vibrant public debate. We must consider how much this country should do, and how much of the cost of mitigation should be borne by this generation. The policy and regulatory choices have important consequences for our macroeconomic performance, companies’ focus, and the costs incurred by investors and savers.”

Sir John Redwood is an independent commentator on economies and governments. A prominent former MP and cabinet minister, he has chaired and led industrial companies, set up an investment management business, been a Director of Rothschilds, and was head of Margaret Thatcher’s Policy Unit. He has written about the green revolution and helped shape the UK privatised energy industries when they were denationalised.

Commenting on his appointment, he said:

“I think it important we have a balanced and well informed debate about climate change and the impact of net zero policies. The GWPF is an important contributor to that debate.”

Jerome Booth, Chairman of the Board, said:

“I am delighted that Karl and Sir John have agreed to join the board. Their knowledge and experience will help guide the charity as moral reasoning and activist dogmatism, still dominant in the media when it comes to global warming, necessarily yield to science, critical thinking, and more pragmatic energy policies.”

The appointments reflect the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to broadening the scope of its leadership and strengthening its role in public discourse on climate and energy policy.
