Dalton Smith WBC world title shot confirmed

Turki Alalshikh brought Briton Dalton Smith into the ring immediately after Subriel Matias’ victory over WBC world champion Alberto Puello in Queens, New York, last night, July 12.

His Excellency ordered the new champion to defend his green and gold title to Sheffield star Dalton Smith on November 22 in Riyadh, to which the Puerto Rican affirmed, “I’m here.”

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican defeated Alberto Puello on the undercard of Hamzah Sheeraz’s TKO win over Edgar Berlanga in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The mixed decision victory now sees Matias crowned as a two-time super-lightweight champion having previously held the IBF belt between 2023-2024.

Dalton Smith is unbeaten in 18 bouts and one of the UK’s brightest stars. Nicknamed “Thunder” for his powerful fists, the Brit won the WBC Silver super-lightweight title against Jose Zepeda in March 2024 and defended the belt twice more to earn his No.1 position.
