Following a request from the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (INDOTEL) to correct radio interference affecting Dominican radio stations in the border area and guarantee the sovereignty of the radio spectrum in Dominican territory, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will address this situation by providing technical and financial support to Haiti.
The proposal was presented by INDOTEL’s Board of Directors Chairman, Guido Gómez Mazara, during an official meeting at ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with the Director of the international organization’s Development Bureau, Cosmas Zavazava, and Diana Sumimura of the Radiocommunication Bureau. He emphasized the need to mobilize technical and financial resources to enable Haiti to modernize its radio spectrum monitoring infrastructure to prevent its broadcasting stations from interfering with Dominican stations.
The Dominican official indicated that Haiti faces structural limitations, which is why this proposal seeks a solution based on cooperative solidarity, without compromising the sovereignty of both countries.
“The issue of cross-border interference requires joint solutions. We ask the ITU, a long-time ally of our country, to support Haiti so that it can access the necessary technical resources and thus guarantee a border free of interference,” said Gómez Mazara.
Cosmas Zavazava, representative of the ITU, welcomed the proposal’s solidarity approach and confirmed the international organization’s commitment to supporting this effort by providing the necessary funds and technical resources for Haiti to implement the required solutions.
