Secret Retreats proudly announces that six of its boutique member properties have now achieved Travelife certification, a globally respected sustainability standard in tourism. The most recent update to this distinguished list is Aava Resort & Spa in Khanom, Thailand, which has passed the audit for the second time, demonstrating the highest commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

What is Travelife?

Travelife is an internationally recognized sustainability certification program designed specifically for the travel and hospitality industry. Backed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), Travelife assesses more than 160 criteria across key areas including environmental impact, waste and water management, labor practices, biodiversity conservation, and community engagement. Certification requires hotels to undergo thorough independent audits and demonstrate continuous improvement. It is regarded as one of the most comprehensive and demanding eco-certification systems in global hospitality.

“Certification through Travelife is not just a label—it’s a meaningful commitment,” says Stéphane JuncaManaging Director and Co-Founder of Secret Retreats. “It proves that these properties are not only offering exceptional hospitality, but doing so with deep respect for the people, culture, and environment of their destinations. We’re proud to support and celebrate their achievements. These properties are an inspiration for our community.”
