Tonight I decided to tackle a long-standing emotional problem I have with how I make a living. I use flower essences for this situation a lot, but tonight I decided to choose something else in my toolbox—Bioenergy Balancing followed by Reiki healing. Bioenergy Balancing is a form of energy healing I learned to help heal food sensitivities I was not born with. And tonight I realized that one of those sensitivities must have been re-established because of symptoms that came up as soon as I ate something that I normally can eat now. Flower essences were not addressing this but one session of Bioenergy Balancing did.
I was very thankful I have that in my toolbox, and I immediately wished everyone knew how to do this . . . but I’m not going to teach you how to do that here. It took a lot of study and practice on top of many previous years of training and experience in Transpersonal Psychology and peer counseling. It includes knowledge of the Chinese meridians and Hindu chakra system as well as basic physiology from a western scientific point of view. It is not hard to do. But without the wider background as a foundation, it’s too far outside of most people’s belief systems to just jump into on the basis of a blog post or two or three.
On the other hand, I am a strong believer of everyone having access to tools that work. I used to want everyone to have an herb garden. I became a Reiki Master-Teacher so I could teach people that very simple method of hands-on healing. I still feel like putting healing into the hands of as many people as possible is essential for the well-being of our communities and of our planet, especially when access to affordable healthcare is threatened. But I can’t do everything.
So that’s where Flower Essences come in. It’s a kind of herbalism that seems to work on the energetic level to work with psychospiritual imbalances that lead to emotional distress. And because our minds are not separate from our bodies, emotional distress often can lead to physical problems as well, especially over time. Many people use flower essences to heal physical conditions, but the route in is to address the emotional or mental patterns in play. I can’t prescribe a specific flower essence for a specific physical condition because people respond to what happens in their lives in different ways. And I’m not really interested in taking on the role of medical doctor using flower essences anyway. Yes, I know it can help. But is it the best way? Not necessarily.
Tonight, for me, it wasn’t. And when it came to lowering my blood pressure I found that many of the things I tried, including flower essences, very definitely helped (sometimes a lot), but it wasn’t enough when emotional pressures from the outside world compounded my personal proclivities. On my last trip to the emergency room I promised the ER doc that I would add a second blood pressure medication to my daily routine. It has made an enormous difference! I never wanted to be a person who depended on pharmaceuticals. Nature girl, here, just wasn’t into that. But, in this case, I’m not looking back.
So what role do flower essences play in my life? A big one! But it’s just one tool—not the whole toolbox. Flower essences can help you make big changes in your life, but they won’t make the change for you. They can help support you emotionally when something happens that is upsetting in your life, but they won’t change what happened. Flower essences can make a surprising difference if your emotions are out of whack, but if you need a better diet or to get outside, see friends, get more exercise, or receive medical attention for something unforeseen, they can’t take the place of that. They can support you if those choices are hard but, ultimately, you need to take the next steps.

Flower essences are used to assist with mind-body-spirit interactions and individual results may vary. They are extremely dilute which makes them quite safe. But because so little physical substance can be detected in a flower essence solution, these products are presumed to work on an energetic or vibrational level—something that cannot be adequately tested by western scientific methods. Claims made by me, therefore, are based on personal experiences and the evidence of the combined multiple decades of case notes by Dr. Edward Bach as well as Healing Herbs and Flower Essence Services (the companies who make the ingredients I use in my products). This is not, however, accepted medical evidence or substantiated scientific evidence from a modern allopathic point of view. I am not a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner.
