Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) has been a staple in roleplaying board games for decades, but it’s never too late to join the campaign. Wizards of the Coast is launching its 2025 Starter Set, its largest yet, to help new players make the leap to tabletop.
Launching Sept. 16, this year’s Starter Set whisks players to the realm of the Borderlands. While most Starter Sets are simple, posed for short- to medium-length adventures with pre-generated characters, Heroes of the Borderlands allows new players to dip their toes into actual D&D mechanics, like character creation and campaign design. The game is available for pre-order now for $49.99.
Heroes of the Borderlands contains everything players need to start their D&D adventure, including physical maps, class boards, monster cards, spell cards, NPC cards, tokens, and dice. To help newcomers navigate the game, the set includes detailed walkthrough guides explaining characters, classic D&D settings, missions, monster fighting, and more. Players can forge their own quest or follow one of the included adventure books, which features bite-sized, one-hour sessions perfect for parties of all skill levels.
The Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set is available as a box set ($49.99) and digitally. Consumers can preorder them individually or bundled on Amazon, D&D Beyond, and other local game stores. The official launch is slated for Sept. 16.
